ZDay Survival Simulator gets major update!

Posted by on Mar 4, 2014 in Blog, Events, Reviews - ZDAY Survival Simulator, Updates and News | 0 comments

The text based zombie survival game “ZDay Survival Simulator” is getting a major update this week.  Version 3.0 is expected to be available next week. “The new version is much more than just a patch or an update, it’s a complete overhaul from top to bottom.” said Ed Anderson, Creator of ZDay Survival Simulator and Survivor Z.  “The engine is completely new, and a hundred times more sophisticated than the previous one.  it’s like going from a mechanical typewriter to a super computer in terms of the game’s sophistication.” The game’s engine is the same as that found in Survivor Z, with some elements disabled such as online play and required location data.  Players will notice similarities to the interface, which now gives them the ability to control their inventory, arm their NPC (non-player characters) with weapons.  In addition, the challenge content has been changed to accommodate the new engine and it’s vastly improved capabilities to record and respond to user input.   There is also over 30% more new content in the game, meaning challenges will be harder, and more expansive than in previous versions. The new version will include iAds at the bottom of the screen on iPhone 5 and...

iPhone App Preview reviews ZDay Survival Simulator

ZDAY Survival Simulator: Shoot the Zombies, Save the World  March 29th, 2012  by Luke Patrick Reviewed by Luke Patrick When it comes to modern fads, we personally hope the zombie-mashing-blasting shooter is here to stay. There’s nothing we like more than sending some undead baddies back to the beyond. However, how long would we really survive in a zombie apocalypse? Between you, us and the walls, we haven’t got the foggiest clue. But, with that being said, ZDAY Survival Simulator by Mongadillo Studios takes us one step closer to knowing for certain. You see, the app acts as a calculator, letting us know exactly what our odds of surviving are based on the decisions we make. It’s a killer concept, and if your interest is piqued, you can head on down below the break to view our whole review! First and foremost, we’d like to just mention that this is nota traditional zombie shooter. You won’t be grabbing shotgun ammo to gun down wave after wave of enemies. However, what you will be doing is surviving a zombie doomsday. The app acts like one, overly-glorified choose-your-own-adventure game for the iPhone—and it’s awesome. The app starts you off in your home. From there, you must choose the best decisions, starting with items like what weapon to grab, who to save, where to go, etc. Along the way, depending on your choices, you’ll add new weapons, party members, and zombie kills. You’ll constantly be waging the odds versus rewards, and if you make enough mistakes, you’ll find yourself victim to an undead and untimely ending. However, the fun doesn’t stop there! Once the party is over, the app calculates your specific odds of surviving an undead invasion, as well as your unique stats. How many kills did you get? How many people saved? The app has it all, telling your own zombie apocalypse story. Even better, the graphics included in ZDAY Survival Simulator have been designed by a premier DC comic artist. As such, they look absolutely fantastic on the iPhone’s Retina display. Firstly, there’s the crisp, bloody illustrations that set the tone perfectly for the gameplay. Then, there’s the killer writing that has you on the edge of your seat. All that being said, though, we aren’t sure how many play throughs the average user will get with ZDAY Survival Simulator. It’s an entertaining novelty, but will you be able to waste hour after hour with the app at the helm? We aren’t sure. Overall Value We’ll spin it to you this way: For the two bucks ZDAY Survival Simulator costs, the app will provide you with a wealth of entertaining gameplay. The graphics are incredible, as is the writing, and though you may not have many play throughs with the app, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth....

ZDay gets 4 stars by 148Apps

ZDay Survival Simulator Review Our Review By Jennifer Allen on January 16th, 2012 ZDAY Survival Simulator is all about surviving a zombie apocalypse. It sounds predictable. After all, there are hundreds of zombie games already out there. ZDAY Survival Simulator does things a little differently though as it’s a text adventure akin to the Fighting Fantasy games and books of old. In the 1980s, the likes of Ian Livingstone revolutionized reading and gaming through such interactive storytelling. For fans of that era, it’s immediately great to see such a concept expanded upon on iOS. ZDAY Survival Simulator does a pretty good job of it too. Ensuring that players won’t be bored by a purely text based interface, the backdrops to each ‘page’ are illustrated by Matt Haley, famous for his DC Comics work, which keeps things consistently attractive. Starting out the game with no possessions and placed in the middle of a huge zombie infection immediately sets the player into survival mode. This game isn’t about being heroic (although opportunities do arise), it’s all about getting by and living for as long as possible. There’s a risk of ZDAY Survival Simulator repeating itself during multiple sessions but that only really becomes apparant in the early sequences. The first few minutes of each game is a little repetitive with the same questions coming up but after that, subtle variations keep things fresh. It’s unfortunate that there’s no way of using items that are collected such as flashlights or even riot shields, they simply bump up the survival percentage that dictates the player’s chances. Clearly there’s a pretty smart game engine going on behind the scenes as each decision is assessed ultimately leading to a detailed results screen explaining just what the player’s strengths are. The inability to choose to use items is a little annoying but otherwise ZDAY Survival Simulator is a very solid title. For those of a certain age who loved adventure game books, it’s the perfect app to play and one that players will find themselves returning to. Not least because they’ll have to be pretty skilled to ‘win’! Read...
